Welcome to Mpotshane Safaris and Private Game Reserve. This hidden treasure is situated only 60 km from East London on the N2 traveling towards Durban.

Mpotshane Private Game Reserve is situated in the malaria free Eastern Cape of Southern Africa. The Reserve is Privately owned and was established about ten years ago and we have decided to open the reserve to the public so that you can also share this unexplored paradise with us.

Mpotshane Game Reserve is situated 3kms from the Kei Cuttings on the N2 which makes access a pleasure.

The reserve boasts with a number of game, bird and plant species. Game species that can be seen on our game drives include the following:
N
yala, Eastern Cape Kudu, Greater Kudu, Cape Bushbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Burchell's Zebra, Southern Impala, Common Blesbuck, Warthog, Grey Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck, Bushpig, Chacma Baboon, Vervet Monkey etc.

The Reserve is partly mountainous, with gorges, waterfalls and hanging cliffs, offering some of the most spectacular views in Southern Africa. Open plains and bush that vary from pristine to ravine together with impassable wild areas create a haven for the above mentioned species.

We
will entertain you with real South African hospitality from the moment of arrival to the time of departure and still keep in touch thereafter, the way good friendships are formed.

We promise to make your stay in the Eastern Cape a memorable one. Our aim is to make you feel part of our family and share the love that we have for nature with us.

Climate:
The coastal area of the Eastern Cape Province lies directly between the subtropical conditions of the Western Cape, while its inland area is bisected by the Great Escarpment, resulting in the southern reaches defined by a series of rivers and corresponding wetland fauna and flora, while the northern areas are those of the altitudinous plains of the Plateau and the Great Karoo.
.

These topographic inconsistencies are exemplified by the climatological conditions experienced by the towns and cities within these areas. In the North East, along the Wild Coast, towns like Port St John’s experience long, hot summer months and moderate winters. Up towards the Free State, at towns such as Lady Grey and Aliwal North, the rise in altitude means the appropriate lowering in temperature and the towns, just a few hundred kilometers from the swelter of the other areas, experience conditions favored more by skiers than sunbathers. The coastal city of East London enjoys a daily average of 7 hours of sunshine annually.

Winter (April-August) temperatures range from 7.1 degrees Celsius (44.8 degrees Fahrenheit) to 19.5 degrees Celsius (61.3 degrees Fahrenheit) and 25.4 degrees Celsius (77.8 degrees Fahrenheit), this is ideal hunting conditions. In general, the weather of the Eastern Cape is kind to visitors. Rarely reaching extremes except perhaps in the height of the Karoo summer, its nature depends not so much upon how it changes, but how much you move across the province’s expanse and into and out of different climatological zones.
